Scope
The Instrument and Electrical Technician II installs, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical, instrumentation, and control systems supporting oil and gas production equipment. This position ensures systems meet established performance, safety, and product-quality standards while documenting equipment problems, corrective actions, and completed work.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, update, and oversee assigned work in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, specifications, and procedures, with particular emphasis on health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment.
  • Evaluate electrical and instrumentation systems and develop appropriate repair plans.
  • Support collaboration among operations, engineering, maintenance, and project teams.
  • Provide input on and review control specifications, work practices, and installation requirements.
  • Maintain responsibility and accountability for electrical and control systems as defined in the Work Management Manual.
  • Apply and follow the Permit to Work System requirements.
  • Ensure the quality and timely completion of work scheduled through the Maintenance Program.
  • Support work prioritization to maximize maintenance effectiveness and coordinate with other work groups.
  • Provide technical support to other technicians performing maintenance and troubleshooting on electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Develop Management of Change requests for electrical and control equipment and follow through with installation inspections consistent with OIMS Element 3.
  • Construct, monitor, and inspect new installations for compliance and recommend upgrades when necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable specifications, codes, procedures, regulations, equipment, and technology.
  • Attend and, when needed, instruct technical meetings.
  • Maintain open communication regarding safe work practices, training, materials, electrical systems, and control issues.
  • Assist with developing the technical capabilities of the maintenance team.
  • Serve as the stand-in for the Instrument and Electrical Lead when needed.
  • Document equipment problems, troubleshooting activities, repairs, and corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of relevant Instrumentation and Electrical experience.
  • Experience maintaining electrical, instrumentation, and control systems in an oil and gas processing plant, production facility, or comparable industrial environment.
  • Working experience with:
    • Allen-Bradley systems
    • ROC controllers
    • IDEC systems
    • Red Lion HMIs
    • Crimson software
    • PanelView HMIs
  • Knowledge of regulations applicable to oil and gas facilities.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, PLC, control, and HMI systems.
  • Familiarity with work permitting, electrical safety, maintenance programs, and Management of Change processes.
  • Ability to meet the safety, administrative, technical, and Operations Integrity Critical competency requirements established in the company’s approved training roadmap.
  • Basic computing and electronic documentation skills.
  • Strong communication, organization, reporting, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Safety-oriented with strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree, preferably supplemented by relevant technical-school coursework.
  • Previous experience with OIMS systems, manuals, procedures, and Work Management processes.
  • Experience providing technical guidance or serving as a lead technician.
