Scope
The Instrument and Electrical Technician II is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, instrumentation, and control systems supporting oil & gas production and processing operations. This role supports safe and reliable facility operations while ensuring compliance with company standards, OIMS requirements, PTWS procedures, and maintenance programs.
Main Functions
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and instrumentation systems supporting production operations
• Test and repair electrical and control systems to maintain operational reliability and product quality
• Evaluate electrical and instrumentation systems and establish repair plans
• Document equipment issues, troubleshooting steps, and corrective actions taken
• Support facility reliability, uptime, and safe operations across assigned assets
Tasks and Responsibilities
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee activities in compliance with company procedures, regulations, and safety standards with strong emphasis on HSE performance
• Support teamwork and coordination between operations, engineering, and projects groups
• Provide input into control specifications and work practices
• Maintain accountability for electrical and control systems in accordance with the Work Management Manual
• Apply and follow Permit To Work System (PTWS) procedures
• Ensure quality and timely completion of scheduled maintenance activities
• Support technical skill development for both individual and team growth
• Attend and support technical meetings covering specifications, procedures, codes, and technologies
• Maintain open communication regarding electrical and control system issues, training, and safe work practices
• Support work prioritization efforts to maximize operational effectiveness
• Provide troubleshooting and maintenance support to other technicians on electrical and instrumentation systems
• Generate and support Management of Change (MOC) requests related to electrical and control systems
• Support installation inspections in alignment with OIMS Element 3 requirements
• Monitor and inspect new installations and recommend upgrades when necessary
• Serve as stand-in for the Instrument and Electrical Lead position when required
Qualifications
• 5+ years of Instrumentation and Electrical experience in oil & gas, processing plants, or offshore production facilities
• Associate degree preferred; related technical training and certifications strongly considered
• Experience maintaining electrical systems and Instruments & Controls in industrial or production environments
• Familiarity with regulations and standards applicable to oil & gas operations
• Working knowledge of OIMS systems, manuals, and procedures
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities for electrical and control systems
• Experience supporting PTWS and maintenance management programs
• Strong communication, organizational, and reporting skills
• Safety-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail
Technical Requirements
• Allen Bradley PLC experience required
• ROC and IDEC controls experience required
• HMI experience including Redlion, Crimson, and PanelView required
• Computing and documentation skills required
