Job Title: Instrumentation and Controls Engineer III
Location: Midland, TX
(Local Candidates Only)
Schedule: 5 days on / 2 day off (50 hours/week)


Summary: Review and provide feedback on engineering work performed by internal teams, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements. Support the effective execution of engineering and design activities that align with project goals, timelines, and procedures. Ensure consistent, accurate communication between the Project Team and other company functions regarding engineering progress, issues, and deliverables. In addition to strong technical expertise, the role requires solid communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead control system lifecycle programs: manage inventory, obsolescence, and plan upgrades for PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems
  • Support software updates, logic testing (ESD/SIS), and field commissioning during turnarounds and online conditions
  • Provide expertise in metering systems for custody transfer, allocation, regulatory compliance, and leak detection
  • Oversee and enforce cybersecurity standards for industrial control systems (ICS), per corporate and industry guidelines
  • Contribute to alarm management strategies: rationalization, prioritization, and state-based logic design
  • Develop and review instrumentation and controls documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, cause & effect matrices, and architecture diagrams
  • Collaborate with field operations, IT/OT, and project teams to implement robust, secure, and maintainable systems
  • Provide field support and training during rollout of new systems or upgrades across production sites

Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent field experience)
  • 7+ years of experience in I&C engineering in upstream oil & gas or midstream processing
  • Deep knowledge of field instrumentation (level/pressure/temperature), control valves, shutdown systems, and gas/fire detection devices
  • Experience with control system platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell, etc.)
  • Proficiency in SAP, Excel Analytics, Tableau, and Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of ICS cybersecurity standards and alarm management (ISA 18.2, IEC 62443, etc.)
  • Skilled in interpreting and developing P&IDs, logic and architecture diagrams, and control strategies
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written), especially in technical and operational contexts
