The Instrument and Electrical Technician III is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing electrical, instrumentation, and control systems that support safe and reliable production operations. This role ensures compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and operational integrity processes while providing technical leadership to maintenance teams.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience supporting electrical and instrumentation systems in oil and gas processing facilities or offshore production environments and be capable of serving as the Instrument and Electrical Lead when required.

The Instrument and Electrical Technician III is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing electrical, instrumentation, and control systems that support safe and reliable production operations. This role ensures compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and operational integrity processes while providing technical leadership to maintenance teams.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience supporting electrical and instrumentation systems in oil and gas processing facilities or offshore production environments and be capable of serving as the Instrument and Electrical Lead when required.
Main Functions
- Install, maintain, test, and repair electrical and instrumentation systems utilized by production equipment.
- Evaluate equipment performance and develop effective repair and maintenance plans.
- Document equipment issues, corrective actions, and maintenance activities.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with applicable regulations, standards, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Support collaboration between operations, engineering, maintenance, and project teams.
- Review electrical and control specifications, work practices, and technical procedures.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for instrument and electrical systems.
- Generate and support Management of Change (MOC) requests for electrical and control systems.
- Monitor and inspect new installations to ensure compliance with company standards and operational requirements.
- Support work prioritization and maintenance planning activities to maximize operational efficiency.
- Participate in and lead technical meetings and training sessions as needed.
- Serve as the Instrument and Electrical Lead on an as-needed basis.
- Execute work in compliance with the Permit to Work System (PTWS).
- Support Maintenance Program activities to ensure quality and timely completion of scheduled work.
- Maintain open communication regarding safe work practices, training requirements, materials, and technical issues.
- Develop personal and team technical capabilities related to new technologies, regulations, and equipment.
- Conduct installation inspections in alignment with Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) requirements.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to improve reliability and maintain operational excellence.
Critical Gating Requirements
- Associate degree required.
- Technical certifications required.
- Experience maintaining electrical, instrumentation, and control systems in oil and gas processing plants or offshore production facilities.
- Ability to support a 14/14 rotational schedule in Carlsbad, NM.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems.
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of MOC processes and OIMS requirements.
- Familiarity with PTWS and safe work permitting procedures.
- Understanding of applicable oil and gas regulations, standards, and industry practices.
- Proficient computer skills and maintenance documentation experience.
- Previous experience serving as a lead I&E technician or providing technical mentorship.
- Experience supporting brownfield modifications and new installations.
- Strong troubleshooting skills involving electrical, instrumentation, and control systems in upstream or processing environments.
