Scope / Overview
The Lease Operator I (Pumper) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance preparation of wells, processing units, and related production facilities. This position supports oil, gas, and water separation operations and requires hands-on experience with field equipment, production monitoring, and basic maintenance activities.

This role serves as the primary operations contact for assigned facilities and is responsible for optimizing production, maintaining accurate records, supporting safe work practices, and minimizing environmental impacts. Experience with new facility startups, work permitting, and production operations is highly desirable.
Main Functions
  • Safely operate and monitor wells, production facilities, and associated equipment.
  • Support oil, gas, and water separation operations.
  • Monitor process conditions to maintain optimal production performance.
  • Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate production records and gauge sheets.
  • Coordinate oil sales and saltwater hauling activities.
  • Support safe work permitting and gas testing requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and operational procedures.
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Maintain personal safety and promote the safety of co-workers.
  • Understand process flow, production chemistry, facility lineups, and isolation points.
  • Review computer-generated schematics and production data to optimize operations.
  • Inspect equipment and work areas using visual, auditory, and physical observations.
  • Issue Safe Work Permits and identify process safety risks.
  • Perform gas testing to support maintenance activities.
  • Gauge tanks, read meters, collect product samples, and record production data.
  • Monitor chemical injection rates, differential pressures, temperatures, flow rates, levels, and vibration.
  • Identify leaks, freezing conditions, overheating, and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Adjust process parameters to maintain production specifications.
  • Maintain company vehicles in safe operating condition.
  • Coordinate oil sales and saltwater hauling logistics.
  • Complete electronic or paper gauge sheets and document production changes.
  • Verify valve alignments and control valve positions.
  • Perform basic maintenance, including lubrication, filter changes, tightening valve packing, and minor repairs.
  • Communicate process changes and equipment concerns to the Production Foreman.
  • Perform winterization and seasonal equipment preparation activities.
  • Utilize handheld monitors and computer-based monitoring systems.
  • Inspect safety equipment, including safety valves, fire extinguishers, fire hoses, and SCBA equipment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Minimize environmental impacts, including flaring emissions and spill prevention.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and work effectively with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in oil and gas production operations or a closely related position.
  • Ability to work a 7/7 rotating schedule.
  • Ability to respond to callouts as required.
  • Experience operating and maintaining oil and gas surface equipment.
  • Strong computer, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift more than 50 pounds and climb ladders and stairways.
  • Ability to wear and utilize SCBA and other required safety equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Trade school certificate or related technical training.
  • Experience with oil, gas, and water separation facilities.
  • Experience with facility startups and commissioning activities.
  • Safe Work Permit and gas testing experience.
  • Familiarity with electronic production monitoring systems and handheld test equipment.
  • Knowledge of production chemistry and process optimization.

  • Upstream lease operator or field operator experience.
  • Hands-on experience with oil, gas, and water separation equipment.

  • Local presence in or near Monahans, TX.

  • Operator experience preferred over service company-only backgrounds.
