Job Title: Lease Operator I or II
Location: Midland, TX
Schedule: 5/2 – 40 hours per week
Pay Rate:
• Level I – NTE $31/hr
• Level II – NTE $39/hr
Position Overview
The Lease Operator I/II is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of wells, processing units, and associated oil, gas, and water handling facilities. This role supports day-to-day field operations with a strong emphasis on water systems, separation facilities, and utilities. Candidates with water technician experience and exposure to new facility start-up and operations are highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
• Execute all work in accordance with company safety policies and procedures
• Serve as the primary operations contact for assigned facilities
• Monitor oil, gas, and water separation facilities, utilities, and surface equipment
• Understand process flow, basic chemistry, and facility line-ups
• Inspect equipment using sight, sound, smell, and touch to ensure safe operation
• Issue Safe Work Permits and perform gas testing for maintenance activities
• Perform process monitoring including tank gauging, meter readings, sampling, pressures, and chemical injection rates
• Conduct visual maintenance checks (temperature, pressure, levels, flow, vibration)
• Adjust operating parameters to maintain production within specifications
• Coordinate oil sales and saltwater hauling operations
• Maintain accurate gauge sheets and production documentation
• Perform basic equipment maintenance (filters, packing, lube oil, tightening, clearing equipment, etc.)
• Support winterization and summerization efforts
• Communicate operational conditions and changes with Production Foremen
• Inspect safety equipment including valves, fire extinguishers, hoses, and SCBA
• Participate in emergency response and continuous improvement initiatives
• Execute work to minimize environmental impact (spills, emissions, flaring)
Skills & Qualifications
Required:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in oil & gas operations or related field
• Water technician experience (required)
• Strong understanding of surface production equipment and water systems
• Ability to operate and maintain oil, gas, and water handling equipment
• Strong safety mindset and regulatory awareness
• Proficient computer skills and accurate data entry
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift >50 lbs and climb ladders/stairways
• Ability to wear SCBA and other safety equipment
• Ability to work rotating schedules and respond to call-outs
Preferred:
• Trade school or technical certification
• New facility startup experience
• Saltwater disposal (SWD) operations experience
• Experience working independently in the field
Equipment & Allowances
• Agency-supplied ½-ton truck
• No personal vehicle allowance
• Tools and safety equipment provided per site requirements
