Scope
Responsible for planning and scheduling all maintenance activities. The Maintenance Planner / Scheduler II should have a strong understanding of safety, health and environmental requirements (SHE), work-selection criteria, work planning, estimating norms, procurement practices, business practices and controls, contractor interfaces, and job-pack development.
The position schedules work to ensure efficient resource utilization and effective coordination among operations—including equipment readiness and permitting—material availability, construction equipment support, and labor crew composition, skills and assignments.
Typical job titles may include Maintenance Planner / Scheduler, Maintenance Lead or Planner/Scheduler.
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate that safety is the top priority.
  • Participate in planning activities with Core and Work Teams.
  • Plan and schedule required routine maintenance work.
  • Work with the Planner to develop schedules, cost estimates and equipment plans for routine work performed during turnaround windows.
  • Plan complex jobs and develop resource plans with the Scheduler, Execution Lead and Operations across all disciplines.
  • Identify and monitor critical and subcritical paths for major events.
  • Apply advanced functions of applicable planning and estimating tools.
  • Educate field execution personnel on look-ahead schedules and help ensure timely work progression.
  • Provide input into maintenance contracting and procurement strategies and steward execution against those plans.
  • Resolve scheduling issues, including negative float, out-of-sequence updates, resource overloads, scope changes and progress validation.
  • Develop complete job plans that include materials, resources and timelines.
  • Provide input into material-of-construction selection and management.
  • Plan, estimate, track and schedule Field Order Changes (FCOs).
  • Apply planning logic, including leads, lags, critical paths and milestones.
  • Assess work contingencies and their potential schedule impacts.
  • Lead coordination between teams when contingencies arise.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a closely related maintenance planning or scheduling position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering within an applicable discipline, relevant professional certification, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present recommendations to management.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, heavy workloads and frequently changing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency with applicable scheduling and planning software.
  • Strong leadership skills during Work Team meetings, including removing barriers, stewarding action items, and managing the cost profile against work plans and estimates.
