Position Overview
The Electrical Engineering Technician III provides advanced technical support for high-voltage (HV) electrical systems supporting upstream oil & gas operations. This role supports field electrical maintenance, electrical isolation activities (LOTO), and provides technical oversight for electrical infrastructure across the Permian grid as it relates to ExxonMobil-operated assets.This position requires strong field-based HV electrical maintenance experience, particularly in transmission and distribution systems, with the ability to translate field realities into effective remote operational oversight during high-stress situations.
Main Functions
- Support field electrical maintenance and electrical isolation (LOTO) for lighting, HVAC, motors, and HV systems
- Provide technical guidance and oversight related to electrical maintenance and operational readiness
- Anticipate field execution challenges and support safe, effective resolution from a remote operations environment
Key Responsibilities
(In addition to Level I and II responsibilities)- Provide technical guidance to lower-level staff on complex electrical issues
- Assemble, test, modify, and troubleshoot electrical machinery, control equipment, circuitry, and components
- Diagnose causes of electrical malfunctions and perform preventive and corrective maintenance
- Record operational and maintenance data; recommend equipment repair, modification, or replacement
- Support electrical isolation activities using switching orders and LOTO procedures
- Collaborate with field maintenance teams to ensure safe and compliant execution
Required Skills and Qualifications
Required
- Prior experience in a closely related electrical maintenance or engineering technician role
- High Voltage (HV) Electrical Transmission & Distribution field maintenance experience
- Experience with substation and/or switchyard operations, including issuing and executing switching orders
- Strong working knowledge of LOTO procedures for HV electrical systems
- Experience maintaining and programming SEL electrical protective relays and metering
- Ability to clearly communicate field conditions and recommend remediation steps
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to work effectively without direct authority
- Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and shifting priorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Preferred / Highly Desired Experience
- Oil & Gas industry experience
- Experience with Monarch OSI or Zenon SCADA systems, particularly for HV electrical systems
- Previous Transmission & Distribution System Operator or HV Maintenance Technician background
- Prior Oil & Gas Control Room Operations experience
- Familiarity with remote grid monitoring and electrical infrastructure oversight
Manager Notes
- Candidates without a strong HV electrical field maintenance background will not be successful in this role
- Field-level experience is critical to anticipate and support maintenance challenges from a remote operations environment
- SCADA systems training can be provided; HV electrical foundation is mandatory
