Position Overview

The Electrical Engineering Technician III provides advanced technical support for high-voltage (HV) electrical systems supporting upstream oil & gas operations. This role supports field electrical maintenance, electrical isolation activities (LOTO), and provides technical oversight for electrical infrastructure across the Permian grid as it relates to ExxonMobil-operated assets.
This position requires strong field-based HV electrical maintenance experience, particularly in transmission and distribution systems, with the ability to translate field realities into effective remote operational oversight during high-stress situations.

Main Functions

  • Support field electrical maintenance and electrical isolation (LOTO) for lighting, HVAC, motors, and HV systems
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight related to electrical maintenance and operational readiness
  • Anticipate field execution challenges and support safe, effective resolution from a remote operations environment

Key Responsibilities

(In addition to Level I and II responsibilities)
  • Provide technical guidance to lower-level staff on complex electrical issues
  • Assemble, test, modify, and troubleshoot electrical machinery, control equipment, circuitry, and components
  • Diagnose causes of electrical malfunctions and perform preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Record operational and maintenance data; recommend equipment repair, modification, or replacement
  • Support electrical isolation activities using switching orders and LOTO procedures
  • Collaborate with field maintenance teams to ensure safe and compliant execution

Required Skills and Qualifications

Required

  • Prior experience in a closely related electrical maintenance or engineering technician role
  • High Voltage (HV) Electrical Transmission & Distribution field maintenance experience
  • Experience with substation and/or switchyard operations, including issuing and executing switching orders
  • Strong working knowledge of LOTO procedures for HV electrical systems
  • Experience maintaining and programming SEL electrical protective relays and metering
  • Ability to clearly communicate field conditions and recommend remediation steps
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work effectively without direct authority
  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and shifting priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred / Highly Desired Experience

  • Oil & Gas industry experience
  • Experience with Monarch OSI or Zenon SCADA systems, particularly for HV electrical systems
  • Previous Transmission & Distribution System Operator or HV Maintenance Technician background
  • Prior Oil & Gas Control Room Operations experience
  • Familiarity with remote grid monitoring and electrical infrastructure oversight

Manager Notes

  • Candidates without a strong HV electrical field maintenance background will not be successful in this role
  • Field-level experience is critical to anticipate and support maintenance challenges from a remote operations environment
  • SCADA systems training can be provided; HV electrical foundation is mandatory

Additional Notes

  • Safety-sensitive role
  • Rotational schedule flexibility required
  • Emphasis on electrical safety, operational discipline, and real-world field experience
