Scope / Overview
The Fabrication Mechanical Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing contractor QA/QC activities during fabrication and module assembly phases to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and fabrication requirements. This position serves as the primary quality representative for fabrication activities, working closely with contractors, fabrication teams, and project personnel to ensure effective execution of quality programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will provide leadership and oversight of quality assurance and quality control processes, support contractor quality organizations, and ensure timely resolution of quality deficiencies through corrective and preventive action programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer fabrication and module assembly quality requirements to ensure contractor compliance with project specifications and practices.
  • Coordinate quality activities with fabrication and project teams to support schedule and execution objectives.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and review of Quality Assurance procedures and processes.
  • Manage deficiency reporting processes, including Deficiency Reports, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Corrective Action Reports (CARs).
  • Track and verify corrective and preventive actions to ensure proper disposition and effectiveness.
  • Review contractor Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and fabrication procedures for compliance with project requirements.
  • Verify contractor implementation of fabrication processes and procedures through quality surveillance activities.
  • Participate in contractor kick-off meetings to communicate project quality expectations and requirements.
  • Witness and participate in ITP witness points and hold points as required.
  • Review hydrotest packages and participate in pre-hydrotest walkdowns.
  • Witness hydrotests and support piping reinstatement walkdowns.
  • Review Positive Material Identification (PMI) reports and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) reports, including RT, UT, MT, and related inspection documentation.
  • Review contractor Inspection Quality Records (IQRs).
  • Participate in system walkdowns, document reviews, and turnover package reviews.
  • Support turnover documentation review and sign-off activities where required.
  • Promote continuous improvement through audits, assessments, training, measurement, analysis, and quality program enhancements.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong experience supporting fabrication and module assembly QA/QC programs.
  • Experience reviewing and implementing Quality Plans, ITPs, fabrication procedures, and turnover documentation.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication quality processes, surveillance programs, deficiency management, and corrective action systems.
  • Experience reviewing NDE documentation including RT, UT, MT, PMI, and related inspection reports.
  • Experience supporting hydrotesting activities, walkdowns, and piping reinstatement verification.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with contractors, fabrication personnel, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships within contractor quality organizations.

Hard Requirements
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification
  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) endorsement required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Alaska North Slope experience
  • Module fabrication experience
  • Major operator project experience
  • Mechanical and piping fabrication QA/QC background
  • Experience with system turnover and commissioning activities
  • Additional certifications such as API 510, API 570, API 653, or NACE certifications



Evaluation Gates
Must Have
  1. Current AWS CWI certification.
  2. Direct fabrication or module assembly QA/QC experience.
  3. Experience reviewing ITPs, Quality Plans, NCRs, and corrective actions.
  4. Experience reviewing NDE reports (RT, UT, MT, PMI).
  5. Hydrotest package review and witnessing experience.
Automatic Reject
  • No AWS CWI certification.
  • Inspection-only background with no fabrication QA/QC experience.
  • Operations or maintenance personnel without significant quality experience.
  • Civil-only or coating-only inspectors lacking mechanical fabrication QA/QC background.
