Overview
The Power System Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of both distribution and transmission systems. This role monitors system performance, identifies abnormalities, and initiates corrective actions to optimize operating conditions and ensure service continuity. The position operates with minimal supervision in a 24/7 control environment.
- Ensure system operation within established company loading and safety guidelines
- Assist in directing distribution service restoration procedures in a safe and timely manner
- Monitor system load and communicate abnormalities to field personnel to maintain proper load flow and voltage levels
- Maintain daily operational logs of system events for historical tracking, planning, and regulatory compliance
- Handle alarms from system equipment and dispatch field teams to minimize downtime and production loss
- Assist in preparation of work clearances for distribution lines and substation equipment to ensure personnel safety
- Participate in and complete all required training activities
- Perform all essential job functions and additional duties as required
- 24/7 operational environment with rotating shifts
- 12-hour shifts (Days & Nights)
- Current rotation: 7/7, transitioning to 14/14
- Requires flexibility and adaptability
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Experience with AspenTech Monarch SCADA is a plus
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) or higher in an electrical field preferred
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in power distribution or related field required
- Distribution Operations and/or field experience preferred
- CAPS (Craft Advancement Progression Skills) or DLT (Distribution Lineman Training) certifications preferred
