Scope
The Electrical Engineering Technician serves as a Power System Operator responsible for the safe and reliable operation of electrical distribution and transmission systems. Working with minimal supervision in a 24-hour control-room environment, this position monitors system conditions, identifies abnormalities, initiates corrective actions, and supports service-restoration activities to optimize system performance and minimize downtime.
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate the electrical system within established company loading and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor distribution and transmission system conditions, loading, voltage levels, and equipment status.
  • Identify abnormal operating conditions and initiate timely corrective actions.
  • Assist in directing distribution service-restoration procedures safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate load abnormalities and operating conditions to field personnel.
  • Monitor and respond to equipment alarms and dispatch field teams to minimize downtime and production impacts.
  • Prepare work clearances for distribution lines and substation equipment to protect employees performing fieldwork.
  • Maintain detailed daily logs of distribution-system events to support future operations, facility planning, system design, and regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Complete all assigned training activities.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced control-room environment.
  • Remain flexible and adaptable while working rotating day and night shifts.
  • Perform other duties and essential job functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least four years of power distribution or closely related experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and inclusively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating day and night shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous power utility control-room operator experience.
  • Distribution operations and/or electrical distribution field experience.
  • Associate of Applied Science degree or higher in an electrically related field.
  • Craft Advancement Progression Skills (CAPS) or Distribution Lineman Training (DLT) certification.
  • Experience using AspenTech Monarch SCADA.
