Main Functions
Evaluate and review discipline engineering work performed by internal engineering teams, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with company specifications, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements. Facilitate the effective execution of engineering and design activities while supporting the goals of the Facilities Engineering team. Maintain clear communication between Engineering, Operations, Construction, and other business functions to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company expectations.
This role is heavily focused on front-end facilities engineering supporting unconventional oil and gas production facilities, including engineering design, field scoping, small project development, Management of Change (MOC), and engineering support through construction handoff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Area Facilities Engineer supporting an assigned operations area.
  • Partner with Facilities Engineers, Site Contacts, and Lead Engineers to support plant operations while gaining exposure to multiple operating areas.
  • Conduct monthly Facilities Surveillance activities and monitor area KPIs.
  • Provide engineering support for repairs, modifications, and alterations involving:
    • Pressure piping
    • Static equipment
    • Rotating equipment
    • Storage tanks
    • Other production facilities
  • Provide engineering support during planned shutdowns.
  • Develop and scope small capital and facility improvement projects.
  • Perform facility field walks and data collection to develop engineering solutions.
  • Lead and support Management of Change (MOC) activities.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables through construction handoff.
  • Support project closeout and final deliverable completion.
  • Work directly with Operations and Construction during project execution.
  • Apply strong engineering judgment and problem-solving skills to unconventional production facilities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or another related Engineering discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of Oil & Gas industry experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of unconventional (Uncon) facilities design experience.
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards, specifications, codes, and safety requirements.
  • Experience supporting facility modifications and operations.
  • Experience with Management of Change (MOC).
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and engineering problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience
  • Strong front-end engineering/design background.
  • Experience with unconventional production facilities.
  • Small capital project development and execution.
  • Facility scoping and field engineering.
  • Operations support and construction handoff.
  • Pressure equipment and production facility engineering.
  • Experience collaborating with Operations and Construction teams.

Travel
  • Position is based in Midland, TX.
  • Field travel to Carlsbad, NM and surrounding operating areas is required.
  • Expect approximately two days every two weeks in the field performing:
    • Facility walkdowns
    • Data collection
    • Engineering scoping
    • Coordination with Operations and Construction
  • Carlsbad-based candidates will also be considered.
  • Personal truck allowance provided.

Interview Process
  • 45-minute Zoom interview preferred.

Hiring Manager Notes
The hiring manager is seeking a technical Facilities Engineer with strong unconventional facilities engineering experience—not a project manager or construction supervisor.
The strongest candidates will demonstrate experience with:
  • Unconventional facilities design (3+ years required)
  • Front-end engineering and design
  • Engineering problem solving
  • Small project development and execution
  • Facility scoping and field walkdowns
  • Management of Change (MOC)
  • Operations support
  • Construction handoff and project closeout
  • Working directly with Operations and Construction teams
Candidates whose experience is primarily focused on project management, supervision, or construction oversight without significant hands-on engineering and design experience are unlikely to be competitive for this position.
